Refineries Running Flat-Out, Gas and Diesel Supplies Still Low

U.S. refineries ran at 96% capacity the week ending July 17, 2026, processing 17.1 million barrels of oil daily, per EIA data. Yet gasoline supplies stayed 7% below normal and diesel 10% below — even during peak summer driving. Refiners can't do much more. The fuels people use most are running short.
