Court: EPA Cannot Take Back $20 Billion in Climate Funding

On August 4, 2026, a federal appeals court ruled that the Trump EPA had no legal authority to take back $20 billion in climate grants already given to nonprofits. The court said the EPA simply disagreed with the policy, and that a new law repealing the program did not allow reclaiming money already paid out. The EPA has seven days to appeal.
