Pet flea treatments polluting UK rivers with banned chemicals

Two chemicals once banned from farms for harming bees and wildlife are turning up in UK rivers — through pet flea treatments, the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee found. The chemicals, used in drops applied to cats and dogs, wash into rivers and kill small water creatures. The committee said only vets and pharmacists should be allowed to sell them.
