Japan Tests Long-Range Missile From a Warship for the First Time

Japan test-fired a US-made Tomahawk missile from the warship Chokai in the Pacific. The missile travels below the speed of sound and can hit targets over 1,000 kilometers away. This gives Japan's military its first ability to strike enemy territory directly — a shift from its defense-only approach since World War II that North Korea, China, and some Japanese critics argue violates Japan's constitution.
