Texas Governor Orders Review of All New Data Centers Before Power Connection

Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered on August 3, 2026, that every planned data center be inspected before being connected to the state's power grid. Projects that fail review will be denied electricity. Data centers make up about 90 percent of the power requests waiting in line — more than five times the state's highest-ever demand.
