Peter Gill, Who Shaped British Theatre for Nearly 70 Years, Dies at 86

British theatre director and playwright Peter Gill has died at 86. Over almost seven decades he directed about 100 stage shows, started the National Theatre Studio in 1984, and brought overlooked stories about working-class life to audiences — from D.H. Lawrence's works to his own plays set in Catholic Wales. Fellow director Michael Grandage called his impact "quietly seismic."
