AI search tools cite Reddit more than any other website

Semrush data compiled for The Verge shows Reddit was the most-cited website in May 2026 across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google's Gemini, and Google's AI Mode — ahead of news publishers, research sites, and Wikipedia. When AI tools answer questions, they increasingly pull from Reddit's user-written posts. That gives marketers new reasons to manipulate those posts and shape the answers people see.
