One Wild Cat Killed 1% of New Zealand's Rarest Mainland Duck

A wild cat nicknamed "Nine Lives" killed about 1% of New Zealand's rarest mainland duck, the pāteke, says conservation group Pest Free Purerua. It killed 15 of 20 birds released in one week, then 15 of 20 more in 2024. It also hunted kiwi chicks and geckos. Caught on 30 July after three years, its body will be stuffed and displayed to teach the public.
