Voting in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir goes ahead despite protests and internet shutdown

Pakistan held the second round of local elections in the Kashmir region it administers on August 2, 2026. Activists refused to take part and businesses shut down. Internet access has been partly blocked since June 5. Residents say over 50 protesters have died, though officials have not confirmed any count. A final vote is set for August 10.
