Gaza Violence and Peace Talks Move in Opposite Directions

Israeli forces killed at least 26 Palestinians in Gaza on August 1–2, 2026. At the same time, Hamas agreed to a plan to give up its weapons, and a step-by-step peace plan was announced. Israel says it won't pull out until Hamas fully disarms. With elections coming in October, fighting and peace efforts are pulling apart.
