Powerful Typhoon Dolphin Weakens but Flood Risk Grows as It Nears Okinawa

Typhoon Dolphin, 2026's fifth top-strength storm, peaked at 175 mph after growing from a tropical storm in just 36 hours over warm seas. Now at 125 mph, it is forecast to hit Okinawa as a weaker storm. Its widening wind area could make the biggest danger not wind but storm surge — seawater pushed onto land — flooding a longer stretch of coast.
