Shellfish gathering banned for two more years in Hauraki Gulf

People cannot gather shellfish from parts of the Hauraki Gulf for two more years, from Friday 7 August. The ban covers mussels, pāua, cockles, oysters, pipi and rock lobster at sites including Waiheke Island, Umupuia Beach and Coromandel's Te Mātā and Waipatukahu. Minister Shane Jones approved the extension after three iwi asked for it, to let shellfish numbers build back up.
