Prime Minister cancels plan to shorten jury trials, with no backup for 80,000 waiting cases

Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on 31 July 2026 he would drop plans to cut the number of jury trials in half. That plan was meant to help clear nearly 80,000 court cases stuck waiting. No new plan has been shared. The future of the related courts and tribunals bill remains unclear.
