Myanmar Military Court Hands Down 37-Year Sentences to Election Boycott Activists

A military court in Mandalay, Myanmar, sentenced eight activists to 37 years each for organizing protests that urged people to skip the country's December 2025 elections. Student leader Htet Myat Aung was among those convicted. Since the 2021 military takeover, laws have been widened so that even encouraging others not to vote can be punished. The Washington Post and AP reported nine sentenced.
