Ebola outbreak in Congo close to 1,000 deaths — one of the worst ever

Ebola, a deadly virus, has killed nearly 1,000 people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since May 2026, according to WHO and CDC data. It is now the second-worst Ebola outbreak in history, passing one from 2018–2020. Only the 2014–2016 West Africa outbreak, which killed over 11,000, was deadlier.
