U.S. warship visits Vietnam despite trade disputes and Middle East conflict

A U.S. aircraft carrier arrived in Vietnam on July 30 — the fifth such visit since 2018. This happened despite trade taxes imposed by the Trump administration and U.S. involvement in the Iran war. Vietnam and the U.S. formalized a strategic partnership in 2023, and Vietnam keeps defense ties with Washington as one part of its strategy to stay friendly with many countries at once.
