Poisoned Tomatoes from Farms Killed 15 Elephants in Kenya

Fifteen elephants near Kenya's Amboseli National Park died between June 24 and July 24, 2026. They ate tomatoes from nearby farms coated with a cyanide pesticide, wildlife officials confirmed. Tests matched a poison previously found on local tomato crops by the Route to Food Initiative. The elephants weren't hunted — their usual walking paths simply cross farms using strong chemicals.
