Xbox Day-Long Outage Caused by Outside Service — Even Disc Games Stopped Working

Xbox went down for almost a full day on July 27, 2026 because a separate company that checks whether you own a game stopped working. Even disc-based games failed — consoles couldn't confirm ownership without an internet connection. Xbox technology chief Scott Van Vliet says a fix is coming in a future console update.
