Xbox Outage Stopped Disc Games Working — Even Offline

A July 26, 2026 Xbox outage lasting nearly 16 hours blocked disc-based games after an online licensing check failed. Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet confirmed consoles couldn't use saved proof of ownership, and that offline mode depends on that saved proof. Microsoft's own documentation says disc games "should be available for offline use."
