
Summer 2026 Heatwave Killed Around 10,000 People in Europe
A heatwave in late June 2026 caused about 10,000 more deaths than usual across Europe, Reuters reported. Germany alone saw 5,120 deaths linked to the heat by July 9, according to the Robert Koch Institute. Western Europe had its hottest June ever — 3.05°C warmer than the average for 1991–2020. It ranks among Europe's deadliest heat years recently.
