16-Year-Old Lifeguard Saves Boy from Big Waves at Santa Cruz Beach

On July 28, 2026, 16-year-old new lifeguard Ryder Williams rescued a 10-year-old boy pulled about 15 yards into the ocean at a Santa Cruz beach. The waves were as tall as a one-story building. People on the beach helped. Someone filmed the two-minute rescue. No one was hurt.
