Malaysia Tells UN Refugee Agency to Stop Registering Refugees

Malaysia's government told the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, to stop registering refugees on July 22. Days later, Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan called for reviewing the agency's right to operate there, saying its paperwork practices are too loose. Malaysia never signed the global treaty on refugee rights. About 126,000 Rohingya refugees rely on UNHCR's papers for safety. UNHCR hasn't responded publicly.
