Origin Energy Took Three Weeks to Tell Customers About a Massive Data Breach
Origin Energy got an email on 2 July 2026 from someone claiming to have accessed customer data. The company didn't tell the public until 22 July, when it confirmed personal details of about 900,000 customers were taken. CEO Frank Calabria said Origin initially found no proof data had been copied. Australian law requires companies to check breaches "as soon as practicable."
