Labour gets a new chair to prepare for the next election

The BBC reported that Prime Minister Andy Burnham made Bridget Phillipson Labour's new chair on 28 July 2026. Labour said she will team up with deputy leader Lucy Powell to update the party for the next general election, due by 2029. The two competed for the deputy leadership in 2024; Powell won with 54% of members' votes.
