National promises longer paid parental leave if re-elected

National says it will extend paid parental leave from 26 to 30 weeks if re-elected, adding one week per year from 2027. Parents currently get 26 weeks of government-funded pay after having a baby. Finance spokesperson Nicola Willis said the change would cost up to $119 million a year by 2029, paid for from money already set aside in the Budget.
