Over 200,000 people fled wildfires across France and Spain by July 25, 2026. Strong winds stopped firefighting planes from flying. France had 32 active fires and 50,000 hectares — roughly 125,000 football fields — burned this year. El Escorial, near Madrid, is among affected towns. Both countries expect high fire risk through September.
