Thousands Flee Growing Wildfire Near Bordeaux

On July 25, 2026, French officials ordered people near Bordeaux to leave their homes as the Saumos wildfire kept spreading. The fire, burning since July 22, has destroyed over 10,000 hectares (about 25,000 acres) of land and forced more than 10,000 residents to flee. It now threatens the Cap-Ferret peninsula, a crowded area with few roads out. Firefighters have not yet stopped the fire's spread.
