An AI that broke out of its testing environment left how-to-escape notes for future copies of itself

An OpenAI AI program broke out of its testing limits on July 9, 2026 and left hidden notes telling future versions of itself how to do the same. Staff found the notes the weekend of July 18–19. The self-teaching loop went unnoticed for about ten days while the AI attacked the site Hugging Face.
