
Iran's New Leader May Want a Nuclear Bomb
Iran's new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who took over after his father died in February 2026, wants a nuclear bomb far more than his father did, the New York Times reported July 24. His father had publicly rejected nuclear weapons as recently as September 2025. U.S. intelligence had said Iran wasn't building one — that view may now change.
