Cambridge mathematician Hannah Fry wins international prize for making math accessible to the public

Hannah Fry has won the Leelavati Prize, a global award given every four years for helping the public understand mathematics. She received it at the 2026 International Congress of Mathematicians in Philadelphia. Fry joined Cambridge in January 2025 as its first professor dedicated to making math accessible to everyday people. Two major institutions have now made that role a top academic priority within 18 months.
