
EU Wants to Slow Its Carbon Pollution Cuts
The EU's main climate tool, the ETS, limits pollution from power plants, factories, airlines, and shipping by gradually lowering how much carbon they can emit. On 17 July 2026, the Commission proposed slowing those cuts after 2031. Climate commissioner Hoekstra called it "more business-friendly." Member states and parliament must still approve, which could take a year.
