Irish Actress Brenda Fricker, Star of My Left Foot, Dies at 81

Brenda Fricker, the first Irish woman to win an Oscar (the top prize in film), has died at 81, her agent told the BBC. She earned the award for playing Christy Brown's mother in My Left Foot (1989). Born in Dublin in 1945, she also delighted audiences worldwide as the "pigeon lady" in Home Alone 2. Ireland's deputy leader Simon Harris called her "a national treasure."
