Italy Gives Mafia Families' Children a Way Out

Italy's Senate passed the 'Free to Choose' law on July 15, 2026. It lets children under 25 and relatives of mafia bosses move, change schools, and get new identities to leave crime families. About 400 people yearly could join. The law formalizes work started in 2011 by youth judge Roberto Di Bella in Reggio Calabria.
