Instagram will tell parents if teens bring up self-harm with AI chatbots
Starting July 16, Meta will alert parents who use Instagram's built-in supervision tools if their teenagers talk about self-harm or suicide with Instagram's AI chatbots — software programs that converse with users. A computer system flags worrying chats, then a person checks each one before sending any alert. The feature launches in Canada, the U.S., Britain and Australia, one month after Canada passed a new online safety law.
