Labour MPs choose Burnham as new prime minister without a vote

Andy Burnham, 56, will become prime minister on July 20. Labour MPs gave him so many nominations that no other candidate could challenge him — something that has never happened before in the party's modern history. Party members won't vote at all; MPs' backing alone decides it.
