Trump Fires Election Officials, Halts Federal Election Safety Work

President Trump fired all three leaders of the federal agency that checks voting machines and funds election security on July 9. The agency now has no staff to approve machines or guide states on elections. The Senate must confirm new leaders before the agency can function again, months before the 2026 midterm elections.
