New York Bans Big Data Center Construction for One Year
New York has banned construction of large data centers, the computer facilities behind websites and apps, for one year. Reuters reported it July 14, 2026. Large means 50 megawatts or more. A megawatt is one million watts. The pause stops all big builds for a year, while West Virginia's newly passed law instead sorts applicants by location and fit.
