New Zealand may join defence agreement with Australia and Fiji

The government is considering joining a defence deal Australia and Fiji signed in July. The agreement says members must help defend each other if one faces attack. This is different from how New Zealand usually does defence — working case by case. Ministers haven't decided yet whether to fully join or take a smaller role. Defence Minister Chris Penk says it would fit with how New Zealand already works with Fiji.
