Ebola Outbreak in Congo Kills Over 500 in One Month
Health authorities reported 506 deaths and 1,561 confirmed cases of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo by July 4, 2026. The outbreak began May 15 and involves a viral strain for which no vaccine or proven cure exists. The first month has been deadlier than any previous Ebola outbreak in the country. More than half of infected people in hit areas died, suggesting diagnoses came too late and infections spread undetected in war zones.
