On July 6, Microsoft released four game studios it owned, including well-known makers Compulsion Games and Double Fine Productions. Unusually, each studio kept the rights to all the games and franchises it created. This lets the studios run independently but means they take on their own costs—a move other game publishers may now be expected to copy.
