China fires test missile into South Pacific without proper warning

China's navy fired a test missile from underwater into the South Pacific on 6 July. New Zealand got only a few hours' warning—not enough time to properly respond. The area is meant to be nuclear-free under international agreement. China says this is normal practice, but Australia and other countries in the region are unhappy about it.
