More Māori voters are choosing their own electoral roll

The Electoral Commission reports that more Māori voters—507,647—are now on the separate Māori roll than on the main roll, which has 455,295. This is happening because new young Māori voters are enrolling on the Māori roll rather than the general one. Since 2023, first-time voters have preferred the Māori roll. People can switch rolls until 6 August, before the November election.
