UK Defence Chief Calls on Next Prime Minister to Spend More on Military

Britain's Defence Secretary Dan Jarvis is publicly asking incoming Prime Minister Andy Burnham to commit more money to the military—specifically, 3.5% of the national budget by the 2030s, roughly £25 billion extra per year. This pressure comes before NATO (the Western military alliance) meets July 7 in Ankara. Burnham has so far only promised 2.68% by 2030, a shortfall that caused the previous Defence Secretary to resign in June.
