Immigration NZ had to pay back fines due to staff mistakes

Immigration New Zealand repaid $44,000 to 21 companies after staff without the right permission issued fines they shouldn't have. The agency also wrongly told companies they couldn't hire workers for 12 months when the law only allows six. These mistakes happened in about one in five cases last year, raising questions about how the agency checks its own work.
