US Energy Department Deletes Thousands of Cooling Tips During Record Heat
The US Department of Energy removed about 6,000 web pages of energy-saving advice in July 2026, including tips about setting thermostats to 75–78°F. This happened during an extreme heatwave that made New York City temperatures exceed 100°F for two days straight. No announcement was made beforehand. The deletions followed Republican criticism of similar advice from NYC's mayor. Archived copies survive online.
