New Medicaid Rule: Work 80 Hours a Month to Keep Coverage

People on Medicaid in 44 states — adults covered after the program was widened, plus some in state trials — must work, volunteer or train 80 hours a month by Jan. 1, 2027. The order comes from HR 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed July 4, 2025. States may start sooner. It affects part of 82 million members.
