Sea Ate Land, So 183 Homes Had to Go
At least 183 homes in Yorkshire and East Anglia were knocked down on purpose since 2010 because the sea ate away the ground beneath them, making them unsafe, numbers from nine local councils obtained by The Guardian show. East Riding removed 66, Great Yarmouth removed 64 in Hemsby. The clearances cost £1.1 million, with about £482,000 from the Environment Agency.
