Two Couples Go to Court to Have Their Marriages Listed in Slovakia
Two couples married in Austria are taking Slovakia to court after officials would not add their marriages to the government record book. Ivan Novotný and Metod Špaček married in 2020; Marián Žáry Kukelka and his partner in 2023. Slovakia allows no same-sex marriage or partnership. The cases will test if Bratislava must follow the EU court's November 2025 recognition rule.
