Water Companies Pushed to Build Public Swimming Pools

Labour politicians and an influential think tank launched a campaign on 4 July 2026 demanding water companies build and fund public swimming pools, or lidos. The law would require companies to provide pools based on local population size. Britain had over 300 such pools in the 1930s; most were abandoned. The campaign says water companies that pollute should help restore the public facilities that pollution damaged.
