Sydney Fire Risk Is Very High: No Outdoor Fires

Greater Sydney faced dangerous fire conditions on 12 October 2026, so all outdoor fires were banned. The Bureau of Meteorology, Australia's weather agency, cited hot, dry weather and storms with lightning but almost no rain. The NSW Rural Fire Service told people: 'Take action now to protect your life and property.' Wood or charcoal barbecues were banned.
